For a marriage under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 in India, the exact document list can vary slightly by state, but these are the commonly required documents for registration:

Documents Required for Bride and Groom

  1. Application / Notice of Intended Marriage

    • Filled and signed form submitted to the Marriage Officer.

  2. Proof of Age (any one)

    • Birth Certificate

    • 10th Marksheet

    • Passport

    • Aadhaar with DOB

    • PAN card (usually not sufficient alone for DOB)

  3. Address Proof (any one)

    • Aadhaar Card

    • Passport

    • Voter ID

    • Driving Licence

    • Rent Agreement

    • Utility Bill

  4. Passport-size Photographs

    • Usually 4–6 copies each.

  5. Identity Proof

    • Aadhaar Card / Passport / Voter ID / PAN.

  6. Affidavit
    Usually mentioning:

    • Date of birth

    • Marital status (unmarried/divorced/widow/widower)

    • Nationality

    • Address

    • Mental fitness and prohibited relationship declaration
